A Prayer for a Newly Ordained Priest

A Prayer for a Newly Ordained Priest

Lord Jesus, Eternal High Priest, we lift up to You Your servant, Father ___, whom You have just called and consecrated in the grace of Holy Orders. As he begins his priestly ministry, fill his heart with unwavering faith, a hope that anchors him in You,
and a love that burns with zeal for Your people. In moments of uncertainty, be his light. In fatigue, be his rest.
In trial or sorrow, let him find strength in Your Cross. Remind him that his “yes” matters that his hands now bless, his words now heal, and his life is now joined to Your saving mission.

Blessed Mother Mary, you who stood beside your Son and now watch over His priests, wrap your mantle around Father ___ as he steps into this sacred calling. Be for him a mother’s comfort and a model of joyful surrender.
Teach him to love as you love, and help him to cherish and guard the gift of celibate love as a sign of his total dedication to Christ and the Church.

St. Joseph, guardian of the Redeemer and protector of the Church, we entrust to you this new priest, called to be a spiritual father to many. Inspire him with your humble strength, your silent trust, and your steadfast service. Guide him in the hidden moments and daily duties of priesthood. May he reflect your fatherly heart—faithful, selfless, and courageous. Watch over him with the same care you gave to Jesus and Mary, and lead him always deeper into the heart of the Good Shepherd.

O Holy Family, protect and guide Father ___ as he begins his life of priestly service. Make him holy, joyful, and faithful,
a true shepherd after the heart of Christ. And Lord, with hearts full of hope, we also pray for those whom You are calling to follow You in the priesthood. Speak clearly to those who are listening for Your voice. Give them courage to say “yes” with generosity and trust. Surround them with good mentors, strong friendships, and the grace to discern well. May they be open to Your will and bold in their response, knowing that to give their lives to You is to find true joy and lasting purpose. Amen.
